Aboudia, the Ivorian Basquiat

Abdoulaye Diarrassouba AKA Aboudia is a painter based between New York and his hometown, Abidjan.

His work depicts fevered landscapes and street scenes populated by childlike figures.

Aboudia is influenced by a synthesis of American avant-garde traditions and the graffiti in the communities where he lives. He uses collage, magazine and newspaper a large-scale, vibrant mixed-media paintings and drawings.

The figures are drawn in the brutal and naive style of a child, but they are not so easily identified.

Aboudia’s artworks are gaining major attention in London, Paris and New York and he has exhibited at 1:54 Contemporary African Art fair and Art Basel Hong Kong among many others…
